Puppy Class – Watch me !!

Today was the second puppy class. What Preston really needs to work on is how to walk properly with a leash. He needs a lot of work in this area as he gets easily distracted and runs ahead or away and not watch to see where we’re going. So when we’re walking and he stray off, we need to remind him to “watch me” as mommy is doing.

First day of school and one fun day

We couldn’t get him to wake up this morning. He must have known it was his first day of school.

Twenty minutes later we went back to check on him and this is how we found him. He crawled back into the covers.

We dragged him out of bed and eventually made it to his first day of puppy class. He’s taking classes at the PetSmart in Mountain View. Here is daddy holding him in class.

After some basic obedience training, Preston got bored and decided to take a little nap while the teacher was speaking.

In his class, he met a very nice classmate named Bob, an American Mastiff, who was 6 months old and already 120lbs. Bob sitting was taller than Preston when he stood on his hind legs.

After he successfully completed his first day of puppy school, we took him to the dog park. There were a lot of dogs there today for him to play with.

Dancing with a Puggle

Preston is ready to take the “Dancing with the Stars” challenge. He’ll win just by his cuteness. This took him the longest to learn so far because of the increased technical difficulty. He wasn’t a natural jumper and had to learn to stand on his hind legs.

Poochie Bell

Many people asked us how Preston “told” us when he wanted to go potty? The answer is “Poochie Bell“. He used to sit by the door quietly and we had no way of finding out unless we kept our eyes on him. He must have been just as frustrated as we were so he learned to ring the Poochie Bell the next day after we hung it by the door. The bell works very well but Preston occasionally abuses it when there are activities going on outside and he wants to check it out.

Crawl

After a good hard week of training, Preston finally can crawl. Occasionally he will cheat a little bit and raise his butt up too far.

Bang !

Preston learned to play dead when we shoot him with a “Bang!” This only took him 2 days to learn it.

Go To Bed

The next command that Preston learned is “Go To Bed”, which he would go into his crate. He is learning so quickly and this only took him 2 days to learn.

Preston RollOver

Preston finally rollsover on command after about 1 week of training. It was a lot of persistence and patience on mommy and daddys part, but he finally is able to do it with a hand gesture. He’s such a smart puppy. Question now is what are we going to train him next.

Down

Preston has leaned to lie down when you tap your hands on the floor. He doesn’t quite yet will lie down on command only. He’s such a smart dog. He learned this command rather quickly. Update: he now will pretty much sit on command and will shake your hand if you reach your hand forward to him when he sits.

Next tricks – roll over. This will be a tough one for him to learn, but Preston can do it !

Shake hands

Preston is learning how to do a handshake today. It took us all weekend for teach him this. He still needs some reinforcements but he’s starting to learn. Preston’s a smart dog.
