Car Safety

Mommy and Daddy would be the first to admit they didn’t used to practice good dog car safety eventhough they knew how important it was. Preston could sit anywhere he wanted in the car and was never buckled up. Shame on Mommy and Daddy!

But that was all in the past. Preston is now always buckled up when riding in the car. Mommy got him a zip-line type of seatbelt that keeps Preston safe but still allows him some freedom in the car.
On Mommy’s car, also known as Puggle Mobile because it is Preston’s primary ride (and full of Preston’s hair), Mommy uses PETCO Zipline Dog Seat Belt. The zipline is hooked onto the rear passenger seatbelt tabs. The adjustable leash that comes with the zipline is attached to Preston’s harness. Preston can still stand on his favorite spot in the car-the center console. Occasionally, Mommy extends the leash so Preston can sleep in the front seat but remains buckled.

On Daddy’s car, Daddy uses KURGO Zipline and hooks it onto the rear passenger overhead handles. He also uses a seat protector that can be zipped up to become a bucket to catch Preston’s shedding hair.

FYI: PETCO zipline and KURGO zipline are virtually identical except for the logo and the color.

The seat cover is made by “Outing Dog”. We like it a lot. It doesn’t have openings for passenger seatbelt use but works well with the zipline seatbelt attached to the overhead handles. There is also a smaller version of this seat cover available that only takes up half of the space. We found ours on They can also be found on the wholesale website, or

Safety First Preston! Mommy burst out laughing when she read this because she calls her SUV the Puggle Mobile too!!! BOL!
I really like your bucket hammock! It’s bright colored AND is the shape Daddy has been looking for. He fights with our current hammock BUT it does have seatbelt openings. Too bad we can just free roam about…..then the humans wouldn’t need these silly gadgets!

Preston! I love standing on the center console too! It’s my perch!!!

  4. Oh Preston – I’m glad you’re now riding safely in the car – it’s so important! Those seat belts look great.

I’m of course too big for seat belts but my humans have always trained me to lie down when I’m in the car – I usually lie at the back, although somtimes I lie on the back seat. This is the safest way for me to travel coz my centre of gravity is low and I’m more stable. It means that I don’t need as much space as people think in the car – I fit into the back of my human’s station wagon no problem. People always think Danes need big vans but it’s actually more dangerous for us to ride in a vehicel standing up and moving around!

YEA to Mommy and Daddy, Preston! They are on board, with you safely in tow….♥ Human Granny kept me in the small kennel (that was buckled up) until I got too big and then she got me a ‘dog car seat’ with a safety belt made just for us pups. Buckle up for safety!

  9. wowwwww Piggy never sit or stay still during the car ride. He will just sit and standing on Mommy lap! (now mommy’s leg just like the world map, ‘scars’)

  10. Hi Preston,
Since I was a young pup my hu-mom has always had me ride in my Snoozer Lookout car seat. She even gave one to Mack’s old mom and dad when he was a young pup. Now I’m afraid to ride in any car if I’m nor in my car seat. A harness is required and a strap attaches to the car seat belt and then the doggie sits in the Snoozer Lookout that is attached to the car with the seat belt as well! It allows me to be elevated enough so I can look out the window while sitting or standing. You just can’t move around. I can stand up, turn around, sit, stand or lay but can’t get out of my seat.
It also minimizes dog hair distribution and the cover of the Snoozer Lookout is machine washable. (Mack used to throw up when he was a young pup, car sickiees…)

    Glad you are safe too!
