A Useful “Trick”

Mommy and Daddy have pretty much given up on training Preston to be a good walker. He knows the commands “next to mommy” and “slow” very well but enjoys his walk so much better when he can stop and sniff around. When Mommy takes Preston and Baby Nolan out for a walk, a retractable leash makes it easier for Mommy to keep her hands on the stroller and still allow enough freedom for Preston to do some sniffing that he loves. The biggest problem with letting Preston have the extra long leash is that he often wraps himself around a tree or pole, Mommy has to undo it by going around the tree or pole. It is not always easy to do that with a stroller.
It is time for Preston to learn to unwind himself with the command “go around!”. (A retractable leash should only be used on well-behaved dogs. Mommy thinks Preston has passed the test!)

once again preston you put all the rest of the puggles to shame with your intelligence. my mommy certainly wishes that we would learn that trick. jack and i are always wrapping ourselves around poles and trees. and never the same one either! you walk much better than we do so your mommy is very lucky!

WOW very impressive as usual Preston!
Mommy agrees, retractable leashes are not good unless you are well behaved dog, and you certainly are and have mastered this “Go Around” trick perfectly! Nice job!

  5. Hi Preston!

You are so handsome! You are so smart but I know walking good can be hard when there is so much more to see!
Has your mommy tried the gentle easy leader harness?? My mom and dad love it! It has made me, the worlds worst walke,r into a perfect princess!! I really suggest you try it. My mom was so worried it would be a waste of money but it actually works like a charm. i never pull in it!! (be careful though because if you are going for long walks my armpits can rub because I dont have enough furr!!)

Good boy, Preston! My mom taught me “other way” which works just the same.

She doesn’t let the retractable leash out until we’re at the end of our walk though. She takes all the fun out of walking by making me heel.

  8. That is super impressive! But we are not surprised! Preston, you are the smartest pup we know! Good job!

Hi! I know you probably get that a lot, but I can’t help but ask: did you guys train Preston yourselves or did you have any help? I’m getting a puggle in May, and as I was watching Preston’s videos, I couldn’t do anything else besides falling in love with how nice he is 🙂 My husband and I work out of our house for the most part of the day, so we definitely want our new baby to be comfortable being alone and I think that requires some training. Please, pretty please, answer me! I’d love to know how you guys did it! Thanks much, have a great day!
